Storage Building Placement

Storage Building Placement

There are a lot of things that you should consider when choosing where to locate your storage building, but without knowing the specifics of your situation, or the exact layout of your property, we can not tell you exactly how to place it. There are however, some guidelines that may help you in the proper placement of your portable storage building.

Access:

There are two parts to this equation.

Access for delivery:

You will want to be certain, that you have a clear path with no low overhanging limbs, lines, or other obstructions, and wide enough to get the building through. Talk to your supplier, and find what type of clearance they will need to get your building onto your property, and then make sure you have that clearance.

Access for use:

If you have a storage building, but can’t get to it easily, then you are not much better off than not having one at all. You will need to be sure that you can have the building situated in such a way that moving things in and out of it will be convenient for you. Make sure that no trees, fences, posts, poles, or any other obstructions block your entry.

Maintenance:

Building maintenance:

Check potential locations for clearance to maintain your building. You may want to wash or do some other type of upkeep from time to time, and you will need to be able to have the space to do so.

Lawn maintenance:

Your new building should be placed in a position that will not impede your ability to mow your lawn. You will need to make sure that you can maneuver mowing and trimming equipment around it. You may also need to check on your irrigation head placement to be certain that it is not going to prevent part of your lawn from being watered. In such a case, some minor adjustments may need to be made in the placement of irrigation heads.

Underground lines:

If you plan to have your storage shed anchored, it would be best to have your yard checked for underground electric, gas, water, sewage, and communication lines as a precaution. this could have some effect on final placement.

You may have other considerations as well, such as whether you would like the building to be shaded. This is not a comprehensive list, but should give you a few points to think about, and give you a place to start in your decision making process.
