Residential Storage Sheds
Residential Storage Sheds
Storage sheds have a lot of uses, which technically makes them “utility building”. Such buildings serve as both residential storage sheds and have industrial, and commercial purposes. Storage sheds are used for construction, industrial and commercial purposes like tool sheds and on site offices for construction sites, and outbuildings for industrial storage. There are even many firms using them for document storage. Commercial storage shed uses are many, but commercial uses represent only a small fraction of the storage sheds sold in this country.
Residential storage sheds
The majority of the storage sheds manufactured in this country are residential storage sheds. So, how are these storage buildings being used?
Sheds for home storage
Homeowners are discovering that they need more space to store things. America’s garages and closets are full! Life, as we live it today demands more and more space. That is where residential storage buildings come into play for homeowners. We have memorabilia from our past experiences, sometimes stretching back over several generations in the form of heirlooms and documents that are both irreplaceable, and of high sentimental value. We have home furnishings and appliances that we may not have a place for at the time, but are keeping for future use. We have boats, lawn equipment, and all terrain vehicles that will last longer and provide better service if kept from the ravages of weather, but storage is not the only way such buildings can be utilized.
Residential storage sheds for home recreation
Space for all those electronic games that have become popular may not be available in the home itself, and playing Wii games, with all their healthy benefits, can take up quite a lot of space. Setting up a game room for such activities just makes good sense. Home offices, home shops, and even home gyms can become a reality with the right buildings in place.
Storage sheds advantages
There are other advantages for the homeowner. Adding a storage building, utility building, carport, garage, or pole barn to your property increases the value of the property beyond the cost of the building itself. If you are selling your home, it also adds that little bit of extra encouragement that may mean the difference between a short time on the market, or a long period of continued mortgage payments.
Residential storage sheds and “self storage”
If you have your things stored in a self storage shed, you can really benefit from owning a utility building. The cost of self storage, or public storage will pay for a backyard building in a matter of months, which will save money in the long run both on storage fees, and fuel to drive back and forth. It would also be difficult to use a public storage unit for home recreation purposes.
Residential storage sheds for home safety
You probably have a few things in your garage that shouldn’t be there, like the extra fuel for the all terrain vehicle, or lawn mowers. This is probably sitting next to a hot water heater, or your automobile, or other internal combustion engine equipment. A spark, plus fuel source, equals an explosive fire in a building which is essentially just another room of your home! You may also have home lawn and garden maintenance chemicals stored in your garage. Outdoor storage of such items just makes more sense than storing them where your family eats, sleeps, and recreates. See: Home hazardous material storage for more details.
